Sucuk und Bratwurst
This piece walks through an RGB print built from a digital illustration by Sucuk und Bratwurst, a graphic-rendering collective from Berlin. Successful RGB printing depends on five parameters working in complete interlock: color optimization, color separation, plate production (here via an indirect film), ink production and composition, and finally printing technique. The subject itself is built around light — a glowing halo that, through the combination of red, green, and blue, reads as an intense LED-like source, an effect heightened by the black paper beneath it. The book presents the print layer by layer: red first, then green, then blue as the third chromatic color, and finally a small "skeleton" white layer that functions much like black does in CMYK printing, carrying only the highlights. Printed together, the four layers combine to reveal just how intensely the figures' edges can glow.
