Hint of Pearlescent

04.08.2026 — IN MÜNTSCHEMIER, A MERE WHISPER OF IRIODIN MAKES TYPOGRAPHY SURFACE AND VANISH ON AN ILLUSTRATION BY NOEL OPPLIGER.

In his studio in Müntschemier, Lorenz Boegli pushes pearlescent pigments to their finest limit. He applies Iriodin, a coarse pigment, so sparingly that it is invisible one moment and visible the next. He builds it up in three layers, from highly transparent to highly reflective. This lets him make typography on an image become legible or disappear. The base is a delicate illustration by the Zurich illustrator Noel Oppliger (Farbfilm). Boegli prints it on top in negative, as a triplex, in three passes.
